Latest from Sandwich School Superintendent Dr Pamela Gould:
We know that there are many of our students and families that rely on our food services program to provide the majority of their nutrition during the day. A concern we all have is to ensure that we can provide some continuity with this. There are a number of different things that we are working on:
All three Marshland Restaurant locations will be offering a school style breakfast for $2.50 and a school style lunch for $3.00 to all students. No other purchase required, no student ID required and no strings attached. They don’t want any child to worry about where their next meals are coming from during this time. These meals will be packed in clear plastic bags to allow some amount of “choice” by anyone coming in to pick them and we will do their very best to accommodate any allergies. The first couple of days will allow them to gauge the demand so be patient with them as they figure this out. They will turn no student away due to an inability to pay for these meals.
As the Federal Government has set cutoff of 50% for the amount of free and reduced lunch students a district must have, right now we don’t have the ability to continue to serve lunch that way we typically do. There are legislators right now trying to change this to allow us to serve a regular breakfast and lunch. We will let you know if this change is made. Thankfully Barnstable and Dennis-Yarmouth are able to offer this. This is open to ANY student on Cape Cod, no questions asked.:
Barnstable Public Schools will provide breakfast and lunch for any child under the age of 18 free of charge. (No ID is required). All children are welcome regardless of town of residence or school attended. All meals will be offered in compliance with USDA standards and will be a “Grab and Go” option. We will be providing both breakfast and lunch at the same time. Students are encouraged to take one breakfast and one lunch. Meals may be picked up Monday – Friday, 10 am – 1 pm, at the main entrance area in the following locations:
Barnstable Intermediate School, 895 Falmouth Road, Hyannis
Barnstable United Elementary School, 730 Osterville-W. Barnstable Rd, Marston Mills
Hyannis West Elementary School, 549 West Main Street, Hyannis
Hyannis Youth and Community Center, 141 Bassett Ln, Hyannis
They stress the importance of social distancing during meal pick up. Please do not congregate at meal sites, and please remain 6 feet from those around you at meal pick up. Please know that we are working to expand options beyond these initial four meal sites.
Beginning Tuesday March 17th the Dennis-Yarmouth Food Services staff will be preparing breakfast and lunch for ALL students. You do not have to qualify for free or reduced-priced lunch to participate. Go to any school in the district between the hours of 11am to 1pm. Stay in your car, drive up to the main entrance. Tell the Food Service Worker how many children how many children you have. The will hand you breakfast and lunch bag for each student/child.
Donations/volunteering: there have been a number of people who have asked about making donations and/or volunteering to help provide resources to our students. As the buildings are closed right now to the public, the best thing someone could do is make a financial donation, which will be turned into gift cards to Stop & Shop for our qualifying families If you would like to do that please make the check out to:

For those who would prefer to donate to Marshland Restaurant to help provide no cost meals, you can visit your preferred Marshland location and purchase vouchers for free meals. They will be the same cost ($2.50 for breakfast and $3.00 for lunch) and can be delivered to any family who will be food insecure during this time. These vouchers will be available at all locations. We will also allow for these vouchers to be given to any food pantry, student services entity or school that will accept them. If you would prefer not to enter the restaurant (which we understand 100%) you can purchase a gift card using their website at www.marshlandrestaurants.com and email the gift card to firstname.lastname@example.org. We ask that you put #Sandwichfeeds in the memo portion of these online gift cards so they know that it’s your intention to donate the card.In the event that this school free period is shortened they will give any unused gift cards to the Sandwich and Plymouth school systems to distribute to needy families.
Thank you all for the support you are giving our students during this most unusual time!!
